‘Its  good to study History but even  better to make History’

The Department  of History  has been functioning  successfully since inception in 1969.   Tourism and Travel Management  was introduced as an optional subject in the department in 1995. 

Goals & Objectives


    • Function as a critique and conscience of society
    • Help preserve the cultural heritage of the nation
    • Set and achieve high academic standards in an atmosphere of autonomy
    • Develop leadership of high caliber and integrity
    • Serve the economically weak, socially backward and needy students
    • Prepare young women ready to face challenges  of life at home and in the society
    •  Accord priority to vocational and entrepreneurial education
    • Develop patriotism and love towards the diverse culture and to inculcate respect for the country


    Objectives of the department:

    The department is promoting knowledge based and research oriented study in History and Tourism.

    Courses Offered

    • Certificate Courses:
      • Certificate course in French with the technical assistance of Alliance Francaise, Hyderabad. 
      • Certificate Course in Hotel  Management entitled  ‘ Certified Hospitality Assistant’ with the technical assistance of the Westin College of Hotel Management , Bharathi Nagar, Vijayawada


      Interdisciplinary electives  offered by the Department:

      • Women’s  Studies

The Department   received an Award for Excellence- in the category  of “ Best Tourism Educational Institute ‘ in September,2010-11 from the Department of Tourism, Govt of Andhra Pradesh.  The most prestigious award was received by the then Principal, Dr Sr Japamalai and  Dr G. Beulah, the Head of the Department of History and Tourism from the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Hon. Sri Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Long and Short study tours to tourism related destinations:

 Students of Tourism have visited various destinations within India as part of their curriculum.  Some of these destinations or tourist circuits include:

  • Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Mathura, Fatehpur Sikri
  • Bangalore , Mysore , Ooty
  • Bangalore, Mysore, Belur, Halebid, Srirangapatnam, Ooty
  • Hyderabad, Aurangabad, Ajantha and Ellora
  • Hyderabad, Nagarjunasagar, Warngal
  • Goa, elephant caves, Bombay
  • Hampi, Bijapur, Pattadakal, Goa
  • Kerala  etc

Short one day tours are also arranged to Amaravathi, Kondapalli, Undavalli, Guntupalli, Hamsala deevi, Kolleru, Uppalapadu, etc

One day tour to Amaravathi

The final year degree students of Tourism do an On-the-job training in the various travel related sectors for a period of 3 -4  weeks.

Activities during the academic year 2014-15:

  • 14th and 15th of August, 2014, Independence Day celebrations were conducted.
  • On the 24th of August, 2014, the Cultural Club was inaugurated with  the departments of Economics, Political Science, and Social Work in the college auditorium and the Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr Siva Sundara Rama Sharma, the Dance Master.

  • On 25th of September, 2014, World Tourism Day celebrations were conducted.

  • Blood Donation Camp  conducted in collaboration with the NSS in the month of November, 2014.
  • Actively participated in the World’s AIDs Day on 1st December, 2014 as members of the Red Ribbon Club. 

International Youth Fellowship, Korea’, an International connection to the department and the college: 
The Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Cultural Club of the college organized an International Youth Festival  on 25.11.14 , in  our college.  It was a  colourful , cultural extravaganza  by the International Youth fellowship, Korea.
