The department of computer science was established in the year 1990. The department is enriched with the needed and adequate infrastructure to support proper shaping of the students as professionals. The department is providing qualitative learning environment to the students’ community enabling them to buildup willingness to learn and work.
The aims of the computer science department are to prepare students for graduate training in some specialized area of computer science, to prepare students for jobs in industry, business, or government, and to provide support courses for students in engineering, mathematics and other fields requiring computer skills.
Upon successful completion of the programme in computer and information science, students will be able to:
• Demonstrate proficiency in problem-solving techniques using the computer.
• Demonstrate proficiency in atleast two high level programming languages and two operating systems.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the analysis of complex problems and the synthesis of solutions to those problems.
• Demonstrate comprehension of modern software engineering principles.
• Demonstrate a breadth and depth of knowledge in the discipline of computer science.

As a part of interdisciplinary courses and departments involved, Information and Communication Technology (ICT I & ICT II) courses is offered to all first and second year degree students.
A diploma course on “MEAN STACK” which has high job potential. This course is being offered in collaboration with Sri Sai Institute of Information Technology (SSIT), Patamata, Vijayawada.

The department of Computer science organized a guest lecture on 17-09-2016 and 19-09-2016 in A.V. room by Mr. S. Sesha Talpa Sai M.Com, M.Sc (IT), Lecturer in Computer Science, KBN College, Vijayawada. The topic was “Photoshop and its applications I” and “Photoshop and its applications - II”. This guest lecture was conducted to I – B.Com(comp) and I – B.Sc (MPCs).
TECHNOMEET – 2K16:
Department of Computer Science organized a state level technical event “TECHNOMEET – 2K16” on 08th December 2016 at Auditorium, Maris Stella College. The chief guest for this event was Dr. M.R.Narasinga Rao, P.hd, professor, K.L.University, Vaddeswaram.
Speaking on the occasion, he explained to the students about neural networks and artificial intelligence. He also said that today’s computer world and the need to develop communication skills. He said that the modern technological world is moving ahead quickly and the students should be able to balance with it.

Students from various colleges took part in the competitions like PowerPoint presentations, poster presentations, coding and debugging, quiz and Mr and Miss Technommet 2K16. The purpose of organizing this technical event is to motivate young students and provide them a platform to come together and discuss their ideas, share and nurture their talents, so that they will become aware of various possibilities in the field of information technology.
The department of Computer science organized a two days’ workshop on “Website Designing and Development” on 28-01-2017 and 30-01-2017 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM in MCA block computer lab by “UDYOG” – “A career counseling and Job attaining institute” team Vijayawada. This workshop is organized for III – B.Sc (MPCs, MECs), II – B.Sc (MPCs, MECs) and III – B.Com(comp).
