The Department has adopted certain healthy practices to make value addition for the curriculum. The innovative program are “EARN WHILE YOU LEARN”- A unique program with the concept of Micro Finance. In order to encourage entrepreneurial abilities of the students at a micro level the department has a tie up with Jana Sikshana Samsthan . Conducted 5 – day training program on Home scale method of Fruit and Vegetable Preservation and Nutrition by Ministry of HRD, “Food and Nutrition Board”, India. The department has a fruitful and long standing consortium with forum of Free Enterprise and M.R. Pai foundation in conducting student centric activities like Leadership Training Camp, A.D Shroff Memorial Elocution and essay writingCompetition and essay writing competitions. Every year the department organizes guest lectures that address curricular and contemporary economic issues. The department has set up a cultural club in association with the History department to promote talents in students. Staff and students are actively participated and presented papers in various International and National Seminars. Organized APEA 32nd Annual Conference in 2014.

Organized a Leadership Training Camp for College Students in collaboration with M.R. Pai Foundation, Mumbai. Jointly with Bio-Club, arranged a talk on “National Income and Social Accounting”. Jointly with Forum of Free Enterprise, Mumbai, conducted the 50th A.D. Shroff Memorial Elocution Competitions. On November 25th , 2014 jointly with the Department of TTM, the Cultural Club hosted International Youth Fellowship with the motto of Change, Challenge and Cohesion.
Activities of Department of Economics 2016 – 2017
• The Department of Economics of Maris Stella College, organized a one day State Level Inter Collegiate Competitions “SAMPADA – 2K17” on January 25th 2017 . The motive of this programme is to provide a platform to young students in the knowledge based society. The academic arena is growing with more and more dynamism and intensified competition which demands cross functional competence.

Industry visits sensitize students to the practical challenges that organizations face in the business world. Industrial visits also give greater clarity about various management concepts for students as they can practically see how these concepts are put into action.
Visits to manufacturing firms are useful for students. to understand the nuances and realities of the shopfloor, which in itself is a rare exposure. By visiting the shop floor they get to understand the risky conditions in which workers work, the people management challenges involved in managing workers a part from getting hands-on technical knowledge.
Industrial visit has its own importance in a career of a student who is pursuing a professional degree. It is considered as a part of college curriculum.
Objectives of industrial visit
To provide students an insight regarding internal working of companies.
Theoretical knowledge is not enough for making a good professional career.
With an aim to go beyond academics, industrial visit provides student a practical perspective on the world of work.
It provides students with an opportunity to learn practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices.
It gives them exposure to current work practices as opposed to possibly theoretical knowledge being taught at college.
Industrial visits provide an excellent opportunity to interact with industries and know more about industrial environment.
Industrial visits are arranged by colleges to students with an objective of providing students functional opportunity in different sector.
Industrial visit helps to combine theoretical knowledge with industrial knowledge.
Industrial realities are opened to the students through industrial visits.
Industrial visits bring awareness and importance of the skill development for empowerment.
The visit generally consists of lectures about the industry given by Mr. Nagabhushanam Naidu, the Project Director, Handicrafts, Alankriti Lace Park, Narasapur. The learning outcomes from his lecture, which our students observed in the industry are
